Glenn Jones is a graphic designer and illustrator from Auckland, New Zealand.
With over 20 years of experience working in the industry, Glenn has a wealth of knowledge about design and branding. As a former creative director, Glenn developed and designed packaging and illustrations for some of New Zealand’s most well-known brands, and he’s collaborated with companies like Google, Men’s Health Magazine and Fitbit. In the mid 2000’s, he entered his t-shirt designs in the Threadless.com design competition. The response and success he received from the contest led to him realizing his dream of becoming his own boss and building his brand, Glennz Tees.
Glennz (Glenn + NZ= Glennz) Tees is a graphic t-shirt company based in Austin, Texas. Since it was founded in 2008, hundreds of thousands of clever, quirky shirts have been designed and sold to graphic tee loving recipients in over 80 countries around the world. His designs provide commentary on pop culture. He likes to create artwork that causes people to stop and think and explore an idea they might not have explored before.

In addition to Glennz Tees, Glenn launched Glenn Jones Art, a collection of art prints and decorative wall decals.
In 2015, Envato caught up with designer, Glenn Jones to chat about his story, source of inspiration and creative process.
Glenn emphasizes the importance of looking to the seemingly ordinary, everyday moments for inspiration. He also stresses the importance of stepping away from the design world to recharge. He’s an advocate for breaks because he’s found that the best ideas pop into your head when you’re completely removed from work. He’s learned that it’s best to get fresh air, take a walk, watch TV, grab a coffee, go out into the garden or spend time with family.
“I think it’s often the designs that are done in no time. The clearest ideas are the ones that work the best because I kind of have this theory that if you’re walking down the street and you’re passing someone, you want that t-shirt to be understandable straight away. And without using text or anything like that, people see it, they like it, they understand it and hopefully it’s memorable as well.”
Glenn’s creative process is a fluid one. He’ll come up with an idea, draw a sketch and post it to social media for instant feedback, which allows him to workshop his ideas and get a better sense of how they’ll do before they go to print.

“Sometimes people might feel things don’t move along fast enough for them. Well the reality is, it won’t be picked up straight away, but as long as you keep on putting your work out there, keep on looking for opportunities and finding people that inspire you, the world is your oyster. Opportunities are endless.”- Glenn Jones
