Today, WordPress celebrates its 10th birthday and we wanted to take a moment to congratulate them.
A decade is a hefty amount of time by any standard – to put it in web terms, WordPress is older than Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest, and of course Envato.
WordPress enthusiasts are celebrating worldwide with more than 600 meet-ups organised in cities across the globe.
Our own Japh Thomson (Tuts+ Editor and all-around WordPress evangelist) organised a meetup in Tasmania, Australia.
We talked to some Envato staff who’ve watched WordPress get to where it is today, and who wanted to wish WordPress a very happy 10th anniversary.
“My first experience with WordPress came when a teacher gave my class a quick example of how some blogging software could be used as a content management system.
“I think the best way to wish WordPress a happy tenth anniversary would be to hop on a WordPress help forum somewhere and help someone fix a problem they’re having.
“The hugely helpful WordPress community have always been fantastic at teaching each other, and that’s something that I’d like to help continue for many years to come!”
Pat McKenna, Envato Support Officer
“I got serious about WordPress when I was working on a custom content management system at an agency, and I realised what a waste of effort it was.
“So many people have put so much time into building something as awesome as WordPress, we should use that instead. From then on, I’ve been passionate about converting digital agencies to use WordPress as their CMS of choice.
Happy 10th anniversary, WordPress!”
Japh Thomson, Envato tutorial Editor & WordPress evangelist
“My first experience with WordPress was in 2007. I’ve certainly become a better developer as a direct result of using WordPress.
“It’s been 10 fantastic years of hard work and many spectacular achievements for the WordPress family.
“I look forward to many more years of awesomeness to come from this truly prospering community.”
Arman Mirkazemi, Marketplace Developer
“It was Christmas day of 2006 when I set up my very first WordPress install. I had a slightly early New Year’s resolution to try out blogging, and I can remember excitedly realising just how easy it was to get started.
“I can’t count how many words, articles and tutorials I’ve written into WordPress over the years, but it’s been a lot.
“As I’m sure writers, publishers and bloggers around the world are doing today, I’d like to wish WordPress a very happy 10th birthday! What a decade!”
Collis Ta’eed, Envato Founder & CEO
WordPress is a significant part of the Envato ecosystem, and we know they share our love of community and creativity. Here’s to another decade of both.
