Our co-founder Cyan is one busy lady. And she needs your help.In addition to being Envato’s Executive Director, she founded and runs New Day Box, an initiative that gathers shoeboxes full of skincare, cosmetics and notes of support, then distributes them to women in crisis in domestic violence shelters around Victoria (where Envato is located).Each Christmas hundreds of women and children find themselves in crisis accommodation due to family violence.A New Day Box is a message of support to a woman going through a rough time and a reminder that, though we don’t know them personally, we recognise their struggle, admire their courage and wish them happiness.
In 2014 New Day Box received over 2,000 boxes. Read all about the journey.In 2015 we’re aiming higher.

“Christmas is one of the busiest times for domestic violence shelters,” said Cyan.

“Women often arrive with just the clothes on their backs, and while they’re focused on making Christmas special for their children, it’s a harrowing time for them.

“Crisis workers tell us that sometimes it’s the first time these women have received a gift in years, and the fact that another person wanted to make them a gift is really meaningful for them. It’s a token of support from another woman who knew they deserved a gift.

This year New Day Box is also trying to send boxes to six new indigenous domestic violence crisis centres in rural Victoria.

If the team can get enough, they’ll be able to send boxes on Mother’s Day and into NSW too.

How to Make a New Day Box

Step 1: Get an empty shoebox
Step 2: Fill your box with skincare, cosmetics and non-meltable treats
Step 3: Drop your box off at Envato (121 King Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000 – cnr of Little Collins and King Sts)
