Some commercial documents, like invoices, as well as some taxes rely on buyer location. So starting today, we’ll be asking all buyers to enter their billing address details when they make their next purchase. This will be securely stored and buyers can reuse the same details on subsequent checkouts.
In the checkout flow, buyers located in the European Union (EU) can also enter their Value-Added Tax (VAT) number (where applicable). When VAT collection begins, EU buyers who have provided a valid VAT number as well as buyers who have confirmed their country is not located in the EU will not be charged VAT on Envato Market.
Buyers, we know sharing personal details like these is scary, so here’s a quick rundown of what we’ll be doing to protect your privacy and information security:
- Encrypting your billing address and VAT number to prevent third party access;
- Securely storing your details for you, so you’ll only need to enter them once (you can update them at any time on your Settings page); and
- Omitting personally identifiable information from commercial documents provided to authors.
