North Korea’s Official Government Site Uses ThemeForest

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on RedditShare on LinkedIn love to dig for the truth. And when they dug into the source code of North Korea’s official government site, they found the word “envatowebdesign”. It’s true – they bought their site template from ThemeForest for just $15.

Files from Envato’s marketplaces keep turning up in places we never expect. This one takes the cake. The theme in question is Blender HTML Portfolio Template by ignitethemes.

Wired explain that the discovery was made by a political science student:

Michael DiTanna, a junior at Fordham, got an assignment in his Korean history/political science course to browse North Korean official media and analyze its content. He quickly checked out the official webpage — and decided to check under the hood…

I had to present on this in class and everyone was pretty shocked.

Given that the site is being used to propogate North Korea’s socialist ideology, I’m not sure whether congratulations to ignitethemes are in order.

The real win is that ThemeForest received such “interesting” attention on’s front page today.

  1. We’re using this theme to present “The Federal Office for Magical Creatures, City of Bonn”. A fiktional German Government Bureau for vampires, werewolves, demons and more. In Germany, it’s not a such a big problem to accept these mythical creatures, but for a brave german citizen it is impossible to see vampires, werewolves, demons, witches or dragons without any regulation, laws or management. 🙂
That’s why some 100 fantasy writers and me created this “Federal Office”.
We’re having lot of fun because sometimes on a book fair some visitors are asking us if we’re real or not.

  2. I’ve used themeforest for a while. Always happy to support 🙂

  3. Well….should I laugh or cry:-)…..

Anyway…it’s pretty strange that these dictators use western intelligence to represent themselves…..

  4. Definately a win for ThemeForest. Because anyone who actually visits will realize these aren’t cookie cutter templates like the $15 price implies. They’re actually pretty amazing pieces of work at an even more amazing price.
