We’ve taken a deep dive into our theme marketplace to uncover the trends, dissect the bestsellers and best-rated, and give you the rundown of what’s hot in WordPress themes in 2017.

It’s never been easier to find your ideal WordPress theme. Big statement? Well, this year so far, 3,790 new themes have been added to our ThemeForest marketplace covering the usual suspects, multipurpose, blogging, business and creative. But there are also themes for just about anything you can dream up – air conditioning installation, pottery and even limousine rentals.

We’ve taken a deep dive into our theme marketplace to uncover the trends, dissect the bestsellers and best-rated, and give you the rundown of what’s hot in WordPress themes in 2017.

ThemeForest Highlights of 2017

While themes are being sold for all kinds of uses, business still dominates our theme marketplace. Of the 3,790 new themes added so far this year, the top five categories are:

  • Corporate – 905 themes
  • Blogging – 731 themes
  • Creative – 648 themes
  • eCommerce – 441 themes
  • Retail – 405 themes

We’re also seeing the same keywords appear month-on-month as theme authors design and develop themes to meet customer needs. The most popular tags are:

  • Clean – 1153 themes
  • Blog – 1088 themes
  • Modern – 1042 themes
  • Creative – 1021 themes
  • Business – 984 themes

Theme authors are also placing a great focus on compatibility with third party products, the most popular being:

  • WooCommerce – 2047 themes
  • Visual Composer – 2033 themes
  • Bootstrap – 1967 themes
  • WPML – 1824 themes

It’s great to see 1,163 themes have received a 4-star rating or higher, though 1,345 have received a 1 star or higher rating (scroll down to read more about the importance of customer support…).

Fun fact: The most expensive theme in the theme marketplace is NOAH – A Witty Photography WordPress Theme at $225 and the cheapest themes are just $13.

Trending WordPress themes

The top 10 is a mixed bag of different themes, from Grace, a blogging theme in top place, to Arte, an art gallery theme and Lynk, a social networking and community theme.

There doesn’t appear to be any solid trend connecting these themes other than the fact people are creating WordPress sites for a myriad of reasons – not just for businesses and personal use, but for blogging and community purposes, too.
