We’ve made some awesome strides in 2018, like selling our 50 millionth item on Envato Market, having one of our ThemeForest authors hit the $25 million mark in sales, and reaching 100 thousand subscribers on Envato Elements.
Our year-end number-crunching has also revealed some interesting trends about what people are searching for or buying — data that could help inform your own work. Read on to discover the trends and surprises that have unfolded this year in Graphics, 3D, Photos, Video, Audio, Themes and Code.
Photos are as popular as ever,
even in areas you wouldn’t think they would be.
Business, office, technology, and computer are among the most searched-for photo categories on Envato Elements. That must mean we have a rocking catalogue of business-related images, so if you’re looking for the perfect image for your business presentations, our photo catalogue should be your first stop.
Top 3 search trends on PhotoDune in 2018… business, donkey, wedding. Yes you read that right: DONKEY. Wasn’t even in the top 20 last year. How did this happen? We think it might have had a thing or two to do with the US Midterm Elections. Well, in case you’re looking for your own business, donkey or wedding photos, you can definitely find them in our extensive stock gallery. But a donkey doing business at a wedding? Sorry, that’s one we don’t have.
Searches for the keywords “dentist” and “money” peaked in January on PhotoDune and faded away after that. No, we don’t know the cause either, but we do know that they must have found what they were looking for because we’ve got a terrific collection of images. Check it out and you’ll see what we mean.
One of our most popular Tuts+ tutorials this year was “How to Create Pop Art Photo Effects With Photoshop Actions”. Nice to see that Pop Art seems to find new converts in every generation. If you too want to learn how to learn how to turn your photos into works of art, this tutorial is for you.
Not everybody wants to spend ages setting up an expensive photo shoot. Mexican startup Placeit, which joined Envato earlier this year, lets you just drop your design onto a mockup creator and have a beautiful image created online, with the model and setting you want. Sales and subscriptions have been climbing fast, so it’s clearly a popular option, and one to watch for 2019. If you haven’t tried it before, take a look. Sign up is free!
